We’ve still got a couple more days before we’ll see any NHL action, but in the meantime there’s plenty to talk about. Let’s check the headlines in our daily wrap-up and see who’s in the news.

The Kings’ Kyle Clifford has not made any strides toward getting back on the ice from his upper-body injury.
Clifford has been out of action since December 6, when he sustained an elbow to the face against the Lightning. He has not resumed skating and remains without a timetable.

The Blackhawks coaching staff seems to be hopeful that winger Marian Hossa will be able to get back to the ice for Sunday’s game.
Hossa has been out of commission for the past two games thanks to an upper-boddy injury, but looks like he has a decent shot at coming back out of the break. He’s sitting on five goals and 11 assists so far this year.

The Flyers’ Claude Giroux leads the team in scoring so far this year, with 28 points in his 34 appearances. That said, he’s got a season-high points-less streak of four games right now.
Giroux will next get the chance to get back on the board on Sunday against the Ducks. We’ll see if he can get back to his high-scoring ways.

The Rangers’ Antti Raanta looks like he’s on track to return from his head injury on Monday.
Raanta was hit in the mask by a puck last Thursday, and the AHL goalie the Rangers added for emergencies (Magnus Hellberg) was sent back down. We’ll see what Raanta looks like in practice on Sunday.

Jaromir Jagr was high-sticked in Tuesday’s game, and admitted that he lost some teeth during the hit. He seems to be okay otherwise, though.
