NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
December 31, 2015
We’ve got a thick NHL schedule ahead of us today, and there will be plenty to check out on the ice. While we’re waiting on puck-drop time, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there.
Evgeny Kuznetsov, C, Washington Capitals: Entering the third period, the Sabres had a 2-1 lead on the Caps last night, and things were looking pretty good for them at Verizon Center.
Washington was able to rattle off four consecutive third-period goals, however, and emerged from this one with a 5-2 victory. Kuznetsov bagged a pair of assists, and Alex Ovechkin scored twice on 10 shots. It was the Caps’ ninth consecutive win, and they’re 28-6-2 on the year now.

Mike Cammalleri, LW, New Jersey Devils: Cammalleri scored twice last night against the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre, helping his team to a 3-0 victory.
Cory Schneider held down the fort in net with 36 saves for the shutout--it was his third of the season and the 20th of his NHL career.
The Devils are now 19-14-5 and sitting at 43 points. That’s good enough for the second Wild Card position in the conference as of now.
Dominic Moore, C, New York Rangers: The Rangers got a bit of revenge on the Lightning last night at Amalie Arena, taking a 5-2 victory.
The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the third period, but New York posted three unanswered goals to get the decision. Moore posted a goal and an assist, as did Dan Boyle and Anton Stralman on the other side.
The win was the rangers first road victory since November 21.
Joe Thornton, C, San Jose Sharks: The Sharks have had some problems winning at home lately, but were able to correct that with a 4-2 win over the Flyers last night at SAP Center.
Thornton snagged a goal and an assist, Joe Pavelski scored twice on four shots, and Logan Couture posted two helpers here.
It was a four-game losing streak at home coming into this one for San Jose.
