The Buffalo Sabres offense struggled and their defense couldn’t save them in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the New York Islanders Thursday night at the First Niagara Center. Frans Nielsen and Nikolay Kulemin supplied the Islanders with their offense put it was goaltender Thomas Greiss who was the real star with an impressive 42 save performance that lifted New York to 21-12-5 with their third win in four contests. The Sabres trailed 2-0 before Ryan O’Reilly’s wrist shot with 8:24 remaining in regulation gave Buffalo a fighting chance. Linus Ullmark played a strong game in the nets with 31 stops but he was the victim of a hot goalie.
The Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and the under is 4-0-1 in Red Wings last 5 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game while the Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. The under is 4-0-2 in Sabres last 6 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation and is 5-1-1 in Sabres last 7 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation while the Sabres are 5-1 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game. The Red Wings are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Buffalo and are 17-4 in the last 21 meetings while the under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings in Buffalo. I lean to Detroit but no goalies have been confirmed…
