The Washington Capitals travel to Nationwide Arena to take the ice with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Washington Capitals learned that all good things must come to an end when their nine game winning streak was halted in a 4-2 loss at PNC Arena versus the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday. The generally airtight Capitals defense faltered with the Hurricanes receiving goals from Eric Stahl, Phillip Di Guiseppe and Jeff Skinner with Andrej Nestasil adding an empty netter. Eddie Lack stopped 30 shots to get the win and lift the Canes to 16-17-5. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom tallied for Washington while Philipp Grubauer allowed three goals on 36 shots as the Caps fell to 28-7-2.

The Columbus Blue Jackets proved they were no pushover as they waffled the high powered Dallas Stars 6-3 at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday night. The Blue Jackets ended a three game slide with a bang as Boone Jenner, Scott Hartnell, Kevin Connauton, Brandon Saad,Rene Bourque and Matt Calvert each lit the lamp. Brandon Dubinsky added three helpers and Curtis McElhinney stopped 40 shots as the CBJ improved to 14-22-3. Patrick Sharp, Cotton Sceviour and Nick Foligno supplied the Stars offense but Antti Niemi allowed two goals on 18 shots and Kari Lehtonen gave up three on 14 shots as the Stars fell to 27-8-3
The Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and are 8-1 in their last 9 Saturday games while going 7-1 in their last 8 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation. The over is 5-0 in Blue Jackets last 5 games playing on 3 or more days rest and the under is 8-1-1 in Blue Jackets last 10 vs. Metropolitan while the Blue Jackets are 2-14 in their last 16 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. The over is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings in Columbus and is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings while the home team is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. I’m waiting for goalies but favor the Caps…
