NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
January 2, 2016
We’ve got a full day of hockey ahead of us in the NHL, with a whopping 12 games on the slate. While we’re waiting on those, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the news this morning.
Brendan Gallagher, RW, Montreal Canadiens: Yesterday’s highly-anticipated Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic turned out to be a blowout. The Canadiens dominated here, ending up with a 5-1 victory over the overmatched Bruins.
Gallagher logged a goal and an assist with three shots on goal, while Mike Condon held it down in net with 27 saves on 28 shots.
This was the biggest blowout in Winter Classic history. Of the previous seven games, none was decided by more than two goals.

Christopher Tanev, D, Vancouver Canucks: Yesterday’s other NHL game featured the Canucks and the Ducks, and this one was a much closer result. Tanev scored a goal in the third to tie the game at 1-1, and the Canucks would eventually emerge victorious 2-1 in a shootout. Alexandre Burrows scored the only goal of the shootout to help his team get the win.
The Panthers’ Nick Bjugstad will not be playing tonight against the Rangers. He’s been getting closer to 100 percent (migraines) and could be back tomorrow.
Tyler Ennis still seems day-to-day after sustaining an upper-body injury in the Sabres’ Wednesday game against the Capitals. He’s doubtful for today’s game against the Red Wings.
