The Capitals look to extend their lead atop the Eastern Conference standings as they welcome the Senators to town on Sunday.
The Ottawa Senators got a much needed win at home over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night but can’t revel for too long as they take to the road to face off against one of the league’s best in Washington in what should be a very entertaining contest. The Sens had been struggling heading into the show down with the hated Bruins but they got some redemption and two big points which has them just a single point back of the B’s and three back of the Wings and Canadiens in a competitive Atlantic division. However, Ottawa’s play on the road leaves a lot to be desired and while they do get Phillip Grubauer and not Braden Holtby the rest of the Capitals will be active and ready to go.

Washington has a very impressive 31-7-3 record through their first 41 contests this season and are third in team defense allowing just 89 goals across that span which for a Washington franchise is very impressive and out of character. The Caps look like Cup contenders for the first time in a few years and a lot of that has to do with the play of Alex Ovechkin and Holtby who have both been ridiculous of late with both in the running for some big time hardware at season’s end. As for today, the Caps are big favourites as expected and while Ottawa looked good yesterday I think Washington will be too strong here.
