NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More

The NHL is back with a vengeance tonight with 10 games on the schedule. Before we get to all that action, let’s check in on some of the notable names and stats in our daily wrap-up of the headlines.
Alex Pietrangelo, D, St. Louis Blues: Pietrangelo had a pretty nice game last night against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. He managed five shots on goal and two assists, helping his team to a 2-1 victory.
Brian Elliott made 29 saves to help out on defense, edging out Petr Mrazek on the other side. Mrazek had 18 saves on 20 shots.
Blues captain David Backes had a pair of assists, and the team’s defense stepped up in place of a couple big injuries.

Francois Beauchemin, D, Colorado Avalanche: The Avs got a nice effort across the board last night against the Sabres at Pepsi Center. Beauchemin and Alex Tanguay each put up a goal and an assist, while Semyon Varlamov had 27 saves en route to a 2-1 victory.
Evander Kane put the Sabres up 1-0 in the second period, but Colorado was able to come back and take the victory. They’re 24-21-3 so far.
Rickard Rakell, C, Anaheim Ducks: Rakell posted a goal with 6:19 remaining in the third last night at Honda Center against the Wild, leading to a 3-1 victory for the home team.
John Gibson snagged 25 saves on 26 shots here to get the win in the final matchup of an eight-game home-stand for the Ducks. They went 5-3-0 in that run.
As for Rakell, it was his 10th goal of the season, which is a new career-high for him.
