Yesterday was an extremely busy day in the NHL, and we’ve got more coming this afternoon as we finish out the weekend. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the headlines.

Evgeni Malkin, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Yesterday’s early game was played at Consol Energy Center between the Pens and the Canucks. Malkin had a hat trick, as did Jannik Hansen on the other side, but Pittsburgh took the win 5-4.
It was Malkin’s 10th NHL hat trick. Bryan Rust also scored the go-ahead goal to make it 4-3 with 7:00 remaining.

Ryan Kesler, C, Anaheim Ducks: Kesler and Corey Perry each scored two goals last night as the Ducks took a 4-3 win over the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
Rickard Rakell and Jakob Silfverberg each tallied a pair of assists, while John Gibson held it down in the net with 24 saves.
The Ducks are now 21-18-7 on the season, while the Red Wings fall to 24-16-8 thus far.

Semyon Varlamov, G, Colorado Avalanche: Varlamov had a nice game last night against the Stars at American Airlines Center in Dallas. He came up with 42 saves on 43 shots in a 3-1 decision.
Gabriel Landeskog broke a 1-1 tie with his goal, which came on his only shot of the game. This was Colorado’s fourth straight win overall and eighth in a row against the Stars. They’re 26-21-3 right now.

Mattias Ekholm, D, Nashville Predators: Ekholm had four shots, scoring twice in a 4-1 win against the Oilers at Rexall Place last night.
Pekka Rinne had 23 saves here, helping the Predators move to 22-18-8. They’ve won the first two games of their four-game road swing. They’ll get back to business on Tuesday in Vancouver.
