The Leafs look to salvage a split in the state of Florida after getting pasted in Sunrise last night as they travel into Tampa to face the Lightning.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a tough go of things this season and things got even worse last night as they were waxed by the division leading Panthers in Florida after the Cats scored five unanswered to win 5-1. The Leafs had ben receiving some nice goaltending out of James Reimer as he is a pending unrestricted free agent and is auditioning for a pay day in the summer or for a suitable trade partner at the end of February but last night’s shellacking isn’t helping his cause or the return for the Leafs. Toronto is likely to go back with Jonathan Bernier in this spot and that is a nightmare for everyone involved as the former Los Angeles back up who was brought in to Toronto to be the next face of the franchise has fallen flat. The Leafs are 10-13-2 on the road and face off against Ben Bishop and the Lightning who are 14-8-2 at home.

The Bolts haven’t had the season many expected of them but thanks to a division where no one seems to have a stranglehold it leaves them still in a good position for a playoff berth as they are only a single point back of third place Boston. Tampa has the pieces to go on a run as we saw last year but some injury concerns and the circus surrounding Steven Stamkos’ future has been distracting and as such Tampa sits with a 26-18-4 mark. Luckily for them though they get the Leafs as their last matchup before the all-star break and I feel like with Tampa going full throttle and the Leafs coming off a loss last night things get even worse here.
