The new look Ottawa Senators head into the Joe on Wednesday night looking to get back in the race in the Atlantic division playoff picture.
The Ottawa Senators made a splash on Tuesday morning as they made an unexpected trade for former Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf in an attempt to shore up their blue line for a playoff push and it is a welcome addition as the team sits last in the league in goals allowed. The Sens assumed a hefty contract to their books but if Phaneuf can regain his early career form than Ottawa made the right move as he is a left handed shot and brings a solid defensive dimension to the team. The Sens will look to pull within four points of a playoff spot with a victory but face off against a Red Wings side that has rallied around Petr Mrazek who has been very solid since earning the number one spot between the pipes.

The Red Wings head into tonight’s game sitting in third place in the Atlantic but can move into second with a win here thanks to back to back losses from the Lightning. Detroit is coming off a convincing win over the division leading Panthers and are in a good position here against a shorthanded Ottawa side that will be in transition for a couple of days until their new players get acclimated. Detroit is taking a run at another division title but they will need to close out the season with some conviction and take advantage of a game in hand they hold on the Panthers. The Wings are 13-10-5 at home this season while Ottawa is 11-14-2 on the road and with all things considered here I do think Detroit has enough in the tank to get the victory thanks to another strong performance from Mrazek.
