The NHL is taking a bit of a breather tonight after a busy evening, with just three games on the schedule. In the meantime, let’s visit with some of the notable players and stats in the news right now.
Drew Doughty, D, Los Angeles Kings: The Kings flat-out pummeled the Bruins last night at TD Garden in Boston. Doughty bagged a goal and an assist, as did Jeff Carter and Milan Lucic.
The final result was a 9-2 blowout. Los Angeles had a whopping 57 shots on goal all together, scoring twice in the first, four times in the second, and three times in the third.
The Kings are 32-17-3 with 67 points while the Bruins are 28-19-6 with 62 points.

Reilly Smith, RW, Florida Panthers: Smith and the Panthers had a high-offense evening last night at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, slaying the Sabres 7-4.
Smith himself accounted for two goals and an assist, while Jussi Jokinen managed a score and two helpers.
Florida scored three times in the first and twice in the second to jump out to a 6-2 lead. They’ve got 70 points on the year, while the Sabres have 48.
Reid Boucher, C, New Jersey Devils: The Devils eked out a tight victory over the Oilers last night at Prudential Center. Boucher and Adam Henrique each had a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win, while Cory Schneider had 19 saves on 20 shots.
With the win, the Devils move to 27-21-7 on the year with 61 points; the Oilers are 21-29-5 with 47 points.
Tomas Plekanec, C, Montreal Canadiens: Plekanec scored twice and added an assist last night against the Lightning, helping the team to a 4-2 victory at Bell Centre in Montreal.
Brendan Gallagher added a goal and an assist, as the Canadiens cruised to a 3-1 lead after two periods and never looked back.
Montreal is 27-24-4 with 58 points; the Lightning have 62 points at 29-20-4.
