We have seven NHL matchups coming across the league tonight, which will kick off a nice weekend of hockey action. While we’re getting set for those, let’s visit with our daily wrap-up and see which players are in the news for their play on the ice.
John Tavares, C, New York Islanders: The Isles jumped out to a dominant 3-0 lead in the first period last night against the Kings, leading to a 5-2 victory at Barclays Center.
Tavares posted a goal and an assist, as did Casey Cizikas.
Milan Lucic and Kyle Clifford had goals for the Kings. It was Lucic’s 14th score of the year.
Overall, the Islanders are 29-18-6 with 64 points; the Kings have 67 points at 32-18-3.

Michael Raffl, LW, Philadelphia Flyers: The Flyers outscored the Sabres 4-0 in the second period alone last night at Wells Fargo Centre, cruising to a 5-1 victory.
Raffl snagged a goal and an assist, as did Nick Cousins.
Wayne Simmonds scored his 20th goal of the year in the second period; Brayden Schenn scored his 15th.
The Flyers move to 24-20-9 with 57 points. The Sabres have 48 points at 21-28-6.
Brad Marchand, LW, Boston Bruins: We had a tight game at MTS Centre last night--at least through two periods. Heading into the third, it was 3-2, but the Bruins scored three unanswered goals for a 6-2 win.
Marchand had a goal and two assists, while Tuukka Rask made 34 saves on 36 shots.
The Bruins are now 29-19-6 with 64 points; the Jets have 51 points at 24-27-3.
Patrick Eaves, RW, Dallas Stars: Patrick Eaves bagged a hat trick in the first period last night against the Blackhawks, helping his team to a 4-2 victory at United Center.
The Blackhawks outshot Dallas 46-32, but the damage was done early. With the win, the Stars move to 75 points and a 35-15-5 record. The Blackhawks have 76 points and a 36-18-4 record.
