We’ve got a five-game set coming up in the NHL tonight, and there should be some good matchups mixed in there as we move into the weekend. For now, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in our daily wrap-up.

Phil Kessel, RW, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins got a solid victory over the Red Wings last night at Consol Energy Center. They outscored Detroit 2-1 in each period for a 6-3 final.
Kessel posted two goals in this one, while Matt Cullen came up with a goal and an assist. Sidney Crosby also scored his 25th goal of the year.
Pittsburgh moves to 29-19-8 and 66 points with the win. The Red Wings are 29-20-9 with 67 points.

J.T. Miller, C, Rangers: Miller was in a helpful mood last night against the Maple Leafs. He came up with three assists at Air Canada Centre, leading to a 4-2 win.
Derek Stepan posted a goal and an assist here, but the Rangers were outshot by Toronto 37-20.
New York moves to 33-19-6 and 72 points; Toronto falls to 20-27-9 and 49 points.

Pekka Rinne, G, Nashville Predators: Rinne got himself a shutout last night against the Bruins, recording 29 saves in a 2-0 victory at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Filip Forsberg scored and had an assist, while Mike Ribeiro helped on both goals (and both came in the first period).
The Predators are now 27-21-10 at 64 points; the Bruins are 31-21-6 with 68 points.

Nikita Kucherov, RW, Tampa Bay Lightning: Kucherov scored the tying goal in the third period against the Jets last night at Amalie Arena, sending the game to overtime and an eventual 6-5 Lightning victory.
Steven Stamkos scored the decisive shootout goal, and also recorded a score in the first period.
The win brings the lightning to 31-22-4 and 66 points. The Jets have 54 points at 25-28-4.
