NHL Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
February 27, 2016
The NHL trade deadline is coming up on Monday, which means we’re in for two more days of rumors and speculation. That said, let’s check in on some of the key headlines out there and see which players may be on the move.
Now that Andrew Ladd is off the trading block (he was moved from Winnipeg to Chicago on Thursday), it looks like Mikkel Boedker is one of the top rumor-makers out there in the NHL.
He’s generating interest from as many as a half-dozen teams, and there seems to be little chance he’ll remain with the Coyotes.
Dealing Boedker should give Arizona some more young pieces to build with, and they should be a team on the rise in the next few years.

Now that the Blackhawks have secured the aforementioned Ladd, they’re reportedly pumping the brakes on Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis.
Expect the defending champs to make a move on the defensive side, just don’t expect anything substantial.
The Kings may also be making a move this weekend (or multiple moves). L.A. is reportedly kicking the tires on Oilers forward Teddy Purcell and the Maple Leafs’ PA Parenteau.
They’ve also made apparently made inquiries about Lee Stempniak in New Jersey and the Sabres’ Jamie McGinn, so the Kings brass has been busy.
There’s an interesting storyline in Boston surrounding winger Loui Eriksson. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent this off-season, but the team has reportedly been making offers and discussing them with Eriksson’s camp.
Boston probably doesn’t want to break the bank with an extension, especially when they could get a decent return on a rental trade. Eriksson’s probably thinking he could maximize his money on the free agent market and may not settle for a deal he thinks isn’t up to par.
The Bruins need defensemen, so they could be looking that way in a potential trade. The Wild have been mentioned as a suitable trading partner: they’ve got plenty of blue-line talent and could use a scorer. Jonas Brodin or Matt Dumba could find themselves in Bruins uniforms come next week.
Last night, we got news that the Blackhawks had traded away forward Phillip Danault and a second-round draft pick in 2018 to the Canadiens. In exchange, they got forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann.
Weise and Fleischmann are headed to be UFAs this off-season and wouldn’t have been re-signed. Weise was rumored to be wanting a $4 million per year contract, and that sounds a little rich.
