The Canadiens continue their California road trip with a spot in Anaheim on Wednesday just two nights after getting pasted 6-2 by the San Jose Sharks.
The Montreal Canadiens have had a terrible season and have been among the league’s worst teams since the middle of November and after getting drubbed by the Sharks on Monday they are currently seven points out of the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Canadiens have been without Carey Price and there is absolutely no way to discount how much he means to the franchise, but you would think that after this much time they would have been able to adjust to some degree without him but they simply haven’t been able to string consistent efforts together. Montreal is fourth to last in the Eastern Conference with better records than only Toronto, Buffalo, and Columbus, and for a group that had spent quite a bit of time atop the Eastern Conference earlier this season it has been a monumental fall from grace.

The Ducks meanwhile have been the complete opposite to the Canadiens this season as they got off to a wretched start but have since pieced things together and are among the best teams in the NHL. Anaheim sits just two points back of the Kings for the top spot in the Pacific and are in a very good spot to lock up a playoff berth, and while they could use some more offensive help they have been very strong in their own end and John Gibson is having himself a Calder Trophy type season in the Anaheim crease. This could be one of those games like we saw in Washington where Montreal has had enough and get a big time victory but the chances of that happening are pretty slim and in the end I like the Ducks to grab a big home ice win.
