There’s a huge NHL schedule coming up today, and the action gets started early this afternoon. While we’re waiting for those pucks to drop, let’s check out some of the notable players out there in the news.
Valteri Nichushkin, RW, Dallas Stars: The Stars got a nice victory last night over the visiting Devils down at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Nichushkin posted a goal and an assist, as did Colton Sceviour. Jason Spezza and the Devils’ Adam Henrique also rang up their 23rd goals of the year in the second period.
The Stars are now 39-20-7 with 85 points; the Devils are sitting at 69 points with a 31-28-7 record.

Antti Raanta, G, New York Rangers: Raanta stepped up to the challenge last night at Verizon Center, logging 32 saves in a 3-2 victory over the Capitals.
Derek Stepan put up a goal and an assist here, as each team scored twice in the first two periods.
Stepan’s was the game winner, however, coming at 0:17 in the third. It was his 15th of the year.
The Rangers improve to 82 points with a 38-21-6 record; the Caps still have 98 points with a 47-13-4 record.
David Savard, D, Columbus Blue Jackets: Savard scored twice last night at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, helping his team to a 6-3 win over the Oilers. Boone Jenner and Scott Hartnell each scored and had an assist; it was Jenner’s 23rd and Hartnell’s 21st. Cam Atkinson also go his 21st in the first period.
The Jackets sit at 27-30-8 with 62 points; the Oilers have 57 points at 25-35-7 so far.
