The NHL is back tonight with six games on the schedule. While we’re waiting on those pucks to drop, let’s visit some of the notable players out there and see which stats are in the news.

Conor Sheary, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Yesterday’s afternoon game featured the Penguins and Rangers in a matchup that’s become quite the rivalry in recent years.
Pittsburgh came out on top again in this one 5-3, thanks to Sheary’s two goals (both in the second period. Derek Stepan also had a pair of assists on the other side. During the game, the Pens outshot the Rangers 33-27.
New York falls to 39-23-7 with 85 points now, and the Penguins are 36-24-8 with 80 points.

Steven Stamkos, C, Tampa Bay Lightning: The Lightning made short work of the Jackets yesterday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, taking a 4-0 victory.
Stamkos scored twice with an assist, and Ben Bishop posted 37 saves in the shutout. Ondrej Palat had a goal and an assist as well.
As for Stamkos, he now has 31 goals on the year. He and Palat assisted on each other’s goals in the third, both scoring shorthanded.
The Lightning are cruising along at 40-24-5 and 85 points; the Jackets have 64 points at 28-33-8.

Jonathan Bernier, G, Toronto Maple Leafs: Last night’s Red Wings-Maple Leafs battle at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit turned into a goalie duel, with Bernier getting the victory 1-0 on 38 saves.
Petr Mrazek fended off 26 of 27 shots but took the tough-luck loss here. The game-winner and lone goal of the evening came on Michael Grabner’s goal in the second, assisted by P.A. Parenteau.
The Leafs are now 23-34-11 with 57 points; the Red Wings have 79 points at 34-24-11.
