The Predators look to build on their big time win against the Islanders last night as they head into DC to face off against the Capitals.
The Nashville Predators made a huge case for their berth in the Western Conference playoffs last night as they grabbed a big win against the New York Islanders and created some separation in the wild card race. Nashville also trimmed the deficit they face in the Central as they are now just five points behind the Chicago Blackhawks for third in the division and they could very well play their way into a first round series with the runners up of the Central and avoid the eventual winner to kick things off. The Predators are in a back to back in this one and may end up going with Carter Hutton but with every game down the stretch meaning so much we could see Pekka Rinne again as he has been brilliant in the second half of the season.

The Capitals meanwhile have all but wrapped up the Eastern Conference and are inching closer to the President’s Trophy crown and at the moment are the only team to have eclipsed the 100 point mark and the only team to have already qualified for the playoffs. Washington is deep across the board as they can beat you with offense and with defense and you can’t mention this team’s success this season without including the play of Braden Holtby who has been exceptional. Washington heads into this one coming off a 2-1 win overt he Carolina Hurricanes, are 8-2 in their last 10 contests and will look to add to that here against another playoff caliber team in what could be a great test for them in terms of playing an opponent with great defense. In the end, I think last night’s victory will take its toll mid-way through this one and I think the Caps are just a little too much at home.
