The Ducks look to stay in the race for the Pacific division crown as they head into Edmonton on Monday to face off against the Oilers.
The Anaheim Ducks clinched a playoff spot over the weekend and can move closer to wrapping up the division with a victory in Edmonton tonight as they currently sit in second place and trail the LA Kings by three points with a game in hand. Anaheim had a nightmare start to their 2015-16 regular season and many expected they would flop the rest of the year and be forced to rebuild after a productive offseason had expectations through the roof, but as good teams do they righted the ship and now look as dangerous as anyone in the Western Conference. The Ducks still have trouble scoring and if they’re going to make some noise in the playoffs they’ll need to find ways to do it against some of the league’s best teams but with the way their goaltending and defense they have been able to get away with it. John Gibson is expected to start for the Ducks as he will likely face off against Cam Talbot.

The Oilers meanwhile are locked into another disappointing season and could very well land the first overall pick for the second straight season if they finish with the league’s worst record. Edmonton only has a few games left on their schedule though and should be inclined to finish the season strong as some players are auditioning for minutes next season and perhaps even a roster spot for some as things are getting dicey in Edmonton as nothing seems to have worked over the last 10 years. Edmonton has been better at home than on the road this season and should be geared up to give the Ducks a run in this one but after losing to Calgary and scraping by the Sens I think the Ducks will be dialed in here and come out with a big effort.
