The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild kick off their Western Conference quarterfinal series in Texas on Thursday night.
The Minnesota Wild head into Dallas on Thursday looking to pull off the major upset of the top seed in the West as they face an uphill climb with game one and two in Dallas including a pivotal show down here to start off. The Wild had another middle of the pack type of season as they have to contend with some of the league’s best in the Central division and while they do have a very nice roster they have been given no shot at getting through the high octane offense of the Dallas Stars. Minnesota was a better team at home than on the road as they were a modest 17-17-7 away from home which is not a good sign as Dallas was lights out at home this season sporting a very impressive 28-11-2 record which goes to show why they are such a favourite in this game and series alike.

The Stars head into this opening round series as the hottest team in the NHL going 8-2 down the stretch to finish the year and have really asserted themselves as a contender in the competitive Western Conference. It is no secret that the Stars will be tough to contain in the defensive zone as they possess the league’s most prolific offense by a landslide and with Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Patrick Sharp and the like as options in the offensive zone they will be tough to slow down across a potential seven game set. Kari Lehtonen is expected to get the nod in the Dallas crease as he will go up against Devan Dubnyk and while the Wild may have the edge in goal the Stars are the deeper team overall and I think they get it done on opening night in front of their home fans.
