The Pittsburgh Penguins looked to regain the series lead as they head into Madison Square Garden to battle the New York Rangers.
The Penguins spoiled a great opportunity to create some separation in their first round series with the Rangers as New York got a pivotal game two victory and head home on even terms where they have been excellent this season. The Penguins had been one of the hottest teams heading into the playoffs and looked very sharp in their series opener but laid an egg in game two and now face a Rangers side at MSG who has been very tough to beat at home, especially in the playoffs. The Penguins are loaded in the offensive zone without question and do have Evgeni Malkin back in the lineup but they’ll need their Russian sniper to step up as Henrik Lundqvist was brilliant in game two and if Malkin and the secondary scoring for the Pens disappears than their chances of winning the Cup could go up in flames.

The Rangers meanwhile pulled themselves back into this series after their game one loss looked like this could be a quick trip for them and now back home for the next two they can feel confident about where they are at the moment and will be in friendly confines in this one. New York has a good team but seem to have a piece or two missing this year and while they could very well pull off the first round upset and get another series in the books I thin it’ll be a very tough path for them to emerge out of the Metro bracket and while the mood certainly won’t reflect that fact I think any action beyond the first round would be considered an added bonus. However, I do like them at home in this spot, especially as an underdog as no team should really be considered a dog at home in the playoffs, especially a team like New York who does a lot of winning at MSG.
