The Capitals look to rid of the Flyers on home ice as the teams shift back to the Verizon Center for a game five show down on Friday.
The Philadelphia Flyers weathered the storm for at least one night thanks to a spectacular effort from Michal Neuvirth in the Philly crease but heading back into DC to face the Caps home crowd in an elimination game things are going to be very tough for them. The Flyers do have some nice pieces or else they wouldn’t have made the playoffs but they are incredibly overmatched in almost every facet of this series and with their road record being what it was during the season in combination with Washington’s spectacular play at home the recipe doesn’t look good for them as the Caps aim to become the second team in the Eastern Conference into the second round.
USA TODAY Sports
The Capitals are the President’s Trophy winners and the Cup favourites in the Eastern Conference and while they had one blip in their last game it is unreasonable to assume they would coast through the playoffs without a couple of speed bumps. The Caps are loaded across the board and while they couldn’t find a way to solve Neuvirth in their last outing they will be out for blood tonight. Neuvirth is certainly the better of the two options with he and Steven Mason on the roster and after a decent season I think he has the tools to be the starter next year. In the end though, the Caps move on thanks to a convincing win at the United Center.
