NHL News 4/30/16: Stars and Sharks Take Early 1-0 Series Leads

We’re coming off a two-game set last night in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, and we’ve got two more matchups to look forward to today. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players and stats in the news.
Logan Couture, C, San Jose Sharks: In Game 1 of their second-round playoff series last night at SAP Center in San Jose, the Sharks overcame a 1-0 deficit in the third period, coming alive for five goals in that one frame for a 5-2 victory and an early 1-0 lead in the series.
Couture scored twice in that period, while Joel Ward added a goal and an assist. Tomas Hertl got his second goal of the playoffs early in the third on a power play.
Scoring for the Predators were Mike Fisher (his second of the playoffs) and Ryan Johansen.
This was San Jose’s first playoff win while trailing after two periods since 2011. The team was coming off a six-day layoff after beating the Kings in the first round.

Kari Lehtonen, G, Dallas Stars: The Stars and Blues locked horns in the first game of their highly-anticipated second-round series last night at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
The Stars came out on top of a tense game here 2-1, with Lehtonen making 31 saves. His counterpart on the other side, Brian Elliott, managed 40 saves but couldn’t get the victory.
Scoring first for the Stars was Antoine Roussel in the second period. The Blues’ Kevin Shattenkirk evened the score in the third, but Radek Faska tallied the game-winner at 15:16 of that period. Faksa also had an assist, very impressive for the rookie center.
