The Boston Bruins take the ice with the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
It’s hard to believe the Boston Bruins missed out on the playoffs last season with the 5th ranked offense that scored 240 goals but it’s understandable when you allow 230 goals (#19). With that many goals allowed the Bruins defense has to be looked at and goalie Tuukka Rask whose save percentage dropped to .915 needs to bounce back and aging Zdeno Chara is going to need help on the blue line as father time catches up to everyone. The Boston offense should light the lamp often behind David Krejci, Brad Marchand, Dominic Moore, David Backes and Patrice Bergeron but the key is keeping opponents from lighting the lamp.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were 6th in the Metro last season so making the playoffs is a long shot and winning the Stanley Cup isn’t even in the conversation. As a Flyers fan, I know CBJ goalie Sergei Bobrovsky well and he can be good at times but also erratic and I don’t think he’s 100% healthy. The Blue Jackets are capable as witnessed by their hot streak towards the end of last year with Brandon Saad, Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner, Cam Atkinson and others providing scoring punch although Ryan Murray, David Savard, Seth Jonas and Jack Johnson will have to step up their play defensively because allowing the second most goals in the NHL won’t get you far.
The Bruins are 0-5 in their last 5 games following a win and the Bruins are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Metropolitan while the over is 4-1 in Bruins last 5 overall. The over is 3-0-2 in Blue Jackets last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and is 6-1-2 in Blue Jackets last 9 overall while going 8-2 in Blue Jackets last 10 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The Bruins are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Columbus and the Bruins are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings while the under is 10-4-1 in the last 15 meetings.
The numbers say Boston and the under but no line is out and I’m eager to see the lineups for the respective squads…
