The San Jose Sharks look for a 2-0 start when they visit Nationwide Arena to face the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Every team in every sport wants to begin a brand new season on a positive note and that’s exactly what the San Jose Sharks accomplished in a 2-1 victory on home ice against the rival Kings on Wednesday. The Kings scored first on Tyler Toffoli’s power play goal before Logan Couture tied it with Brent Jones scoring the game winner in the third. SJ goalie Martin was sharp in stopping 21 shots as San Jose hung their Western Conference championship banner on a winning note. The loss was extremely costly for Los Angeles with Jonathan Quick leaving with an unknown lower body injury. Backup Jeff Zatkoff gave up the deciding goal in the third and ended up the loser for the Kings.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will be looking to get their first win after dropping their opener 6-3 at home to Boston on Wednesday night. The Bruins fell behind early but were difficult to stop once they got going, especially Brad Marchand who scored twice and posted three helpers while David Pastrnak also tallied two times and added two assists followed by another two goals from David Backes. Tuuka Rask stopped 28 shots for the win with Cam Atkinson, Seth Jones and Alexander Wennberg beating Rask for a 3-1 lead. Sergei Bobrovsky struggled between the pipes with five goals allowed on 36 shots to absorb the defeat.
The under is 4-0 in Sharks last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and the Sharks are 10-1 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400 while the under is 7-1-1 in Sharks last 9 games playing on 2 days rest. The over is 4-0 in Blue Jackets last 4 vs. Western Conference and is 7-0 in Blue Jackets last 7 Saturday games while going 4-0-2 in Blue Jackets last 6 vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the under is 17-5 in the last 22 meetings in Columbus.
The under has been a good bet when these teams take the ice in Columbus but I favor the Sharks until goalies are confirmed…
