The Edmonton Oilers look to build on their win at home against the Carolina Hurricanes as they welcome the St. Louis to town on Thursday.

The Blues spoiled a strong defensive effort on the road in Vancouver on Tuesday night as they allowed the Canucks back into the game and ultimately lost a 2-1 final and now head into the newly built Rogers Place for a show down with Connor McDavid and the Oilers. St. Louis heads into the season with one of the best rosters in the NHL and are considered to be a Cup contender in most circles and while the Oilers can score in bunches and have looked good so far you’d have to think the Blues are the favourites here after losing their last time out. St. Louis will likely send Jake Allen to the cage here as he will take on Cam Talbot who rebounded nicely in his last outing after a disastrous matchup with the Sabres on Sunday.

The Oilers meanwhile continue their home stand to open the season and will look for their fourth win in five games after a home and home split with the Flames, a loss to Buffalo and a win against the Hurricanes. Edmonton has been a team on the rise it seems for the better part of 10 years but they have yet to find a recipe that works as they haven’t made the playoffs since 2006 and quite frankly, they haven’t even been close. Edmonton made a splash by shipping out long time forward Taylor Hall who is now with the New Jersey Devils and in exchange they shored up their top four defensive pairings by bringing in Adam Larsson and signing Milan Lucic. If the Oil can get a big win here against former first overall pick Nail Yakupov and his new bunch it could be a nice catalyst moving forward.

The Blues are 1-5 in their last six against the Pacific, 20-8 in their last 28 road games, and 3-7 in their last 10 Thursday games while the Oilers are 16-37 in their last 53 Thursday games and 17-35 in their last 52 games following a win. I need to see more from the Oilers before we can back them against the league’s top teams and at a nice price on the road the Blues are the play here.
