The Columbus Blue Jackets look for their first victory of the season as they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.
The Blackhawks head into Columbus on Friday night looking to move a game above the .500 mark and continue their recent dominance over the Jackets in what is a light night on the ice in preparation for a jam packed Saturday schedule. The Hawks are considered by any to still be a Cup contender this season and with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews leading the way it is easy to see why, and while I think they have taken a bit of a hit over the last couple of seasons they should be back in the playoff picture here, especially if Corey Crawford can have another strong season. Crawford is expected to get the start as he will face off against Sergei Bobrovksy who is 0-2 with a 3.59 GAA average in those contests while Crawford is 1-2 with a 3.41 mark and a save percentage of a modest .884.

The Blue Jackets meanwhile are in deep again this season as they will likely end up in the running for another top end draft pick and while the season is just over a week old things don’t look great for a Blue jackets side that was poised for a breakout a couple of years ago. Columbus has some decent pieces, and used the third overall pick to take Pierre-Lu Dubois in last year’s draft and while we may not see him much this season for the Jackets he is a nice piece to build around if he can transfer his junior level game to the NHL in the next few years. Columbus though is a home dog here against the Hawks who will be out for a statement win that we haven’t quite seen yet.
The Hawks are 5-2 in their last seven on two day’s rest and 7-3 in their last 10 on Friday games while the Jackets are 1-4 in their last five home games and 5-2 in their last seven against the Western Conference. Even if this is a look ahead spot for the Hawks they are the team to beat here and they should have no issues getting the win against Columbus.
