The Colorado Avalanche look to build on their hot start to the season as they face off against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
The Avs are coming off a big 4-0 shutout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night and will look to complete the Florida sweep with another big effort against the Panthers in this one in what has been an excellent start to the season. The Avs are an underrated bunch that has a very strong offensive core and a serviceable blue line and goaltending battery that is underrated and should be able to keep them in games when the offense runs quiet. The Avalanche will likely turn to Semyon Varlamov in this one as he will face off against Roberto Luongo who has been exceptional to start the season.

The Panthers meanwhile are projected to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this season as they have a well balanced lineup led by the ageless Jaromir Jagr and if they can get their young core to take the next step forward they should be right in the mix come playoff time. Florida is anchored on the blue line by Aaron Ekblad who is quickly becoming one of the best defenders in the NHL and with a goaltending tandem of Luongo and James Reimer behind him and the rest of the blue line they know they can take risks when necessary and help jump up into the play.
The Avalanche are 6-2 in their last eight against the Atlantic and 1-5 in their last six Saturday games while the Panthers are 4-0 in their last four Saturday games and 18-41 in their last 59 against the Central. Colorado continues to get early juice and we won’t see it for long and while the Cats have the edge in the defensive side of things, Colorado has some serious offensive presence and should be able to pull out another win.
