The Calgary Flames head into the United Center on Monday night as they look for just their second win of the season against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Flames look to get rolling as they take to the road to face off against one of the best teams in the league and a deadly home ice squad in the Chicago Blackhawks who have been one of the best teams in the NHL over the last six seasons. Calgary meanwhile was expected to take a big jump forward this season and play their way back into a playoff spot but so far they are off to a rough start and will need to turn things around in a hurry before they fall out of the race in the Pacific division by the turn of the calendar, and a win against the Hawks in Chicago would go a long way to doing so. Calgary will send Brian Elliott to the crease who knows the Hawks well from his days with the Blues as he will face off against the struggling Corey Crawford who will be out for a rebound effort in his own right.

The Blackhawks meanwhile haven’t looked like the team many expected to see in the preseason and while they are coming off a come from behind win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday they still have a ways to go before they can be considered a Cup contender. Chicago lost some pieces in the offseason which is commonplace for teams that are always in the hunt for a Stanley Cup and while most of their core is back they have some nagging injuries to their back end, especially Duncan Keith, and this could be the season we see them regress a little bit. However, the Hawks are big favourites here and should be considered as such as the Flames are not in a good spot right now and have a huge mountain to climb themselves.
The Flames are 16-36 in their last 52 road games and 1-4 in their last five against the Central while the Hawks are 37-16 in their last 53 Monday games and 125-60 in their last 185 home games. Chicago is the better team here and while Calgary is talented up front they have been getting torn up in the defensive zone and against a good Hawks team that should continue here.
