There will be plenty of NHL hockey action in the Motor City when the Detroit Red Wings host the Carolina Hurricanes.
It seems as a Flyers fan that the world of NHL hockey is always tough to negotiate although the Carolina Hurricanes probably don’t have that same feeling after Saturday’s 6-3 defeat at Philadelphia. Philly had their offense clicking with a pair of tallies from Jakub Voracek with Shayne Gostisbehere, Wayne Simmonds, Matt Read and Brandon Manning also finding the back of the net with Steve Mason stopping 27 shots to pick up the win. The Hurricanes have played five consecutive contests on the road with another on tap and got their scoring from Jordan Staal, Justin Faulk and Lee Stempniak with the loss going to Eddie Lack who stopped 21 shots.

In NHL hockey we don’t think of outrageous scoring that we sometimes see in other sports but the bottom line is there has to be scoring to win and the San Jose Sharks didn’t do any in a 3-0 defeat to the suddenly hot Red Wings have won four straight with a pair of goals coming off the stick of Gustav Nyqvist with Andreas Athanasiou also lighting the lamp. Jimmy Howard was the beneficiary of the support and his own defense with 30 saves to get the victory and record his 23 career shutout. At the other end of the ice, Sharks goalie was on his own with 29 saves ending up in the loss column.
The Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and the Hurricanes are 7-1 in their last 8 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game while the under is 7-1-4 in Hurricanes last 12 Tuesday games. The over is 4-0-1 in Red Wings last 5 Tuesday games and the Red Wings are 0-5 in their last 5 Tuesday games while the Red Wings are 4-0 in their last 4 overall. The road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the Hurricanes are 7-18-1 in the last 26 meetings while the Hurricanes are 3-7-1 in the last 11 meetings in Detroit.
The trends favor the Red Wings although Carolina already has their back against the wall with this being their 6th consecutive road contest but I need to see if the Canes have a full lineup going and who is in goal…
