The Florida Panthers look for a statement win as they take to the road to face off with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.
The Panthers head into Pittsburgh on Monday night looking to put themselves on the map in the landscape of the Eastern Conference contender picture and if they can leave the Consol Energy Center with two points they’d certainly have a big win on their resume. The Cats have a nice balance of youth and veteran leadership and are coming off a playoff appearance last season that is a jumping off point for this year’s group and they are capable of getting there and making some noise. The Panthers will turn to James Reimer here who continues to be one of the best journeyman back up goalies in the league and has never really been given a fair shake, and is now slotted in behind Roberto Luongo in Sunrise.

The Penguins meanwhile continue to deal without Sidney Crosby who is still sidelined with a concussion he sustained in the preseason and while the Pens have done well without him he is certainly the catalyst of their offense and will make a huge difference upon return. The Pens though will face a stiff test here as the Panthers are no slouch and will have a motivated goaltender looking to cut into his teammate’s workload, and a defense unit led by Aaron Ekblad who is quickly becoming the bench mark for young blue liners as he has been remarkable since his debut a couple years ago.
The Panthers are 13-3 in their last 16 Tuesday games and 1-4 in their last five road games while the Pens are 6-1 in their last seven Tuesday games and 6-0 in their last six games following a loss by three or more goals. I really like this Panthers group and they are playing well right now and while the trends favour the Penguins I think Florida can do enough to earn the win and give us a great return.
