The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders meet up in Brooklyn on Sunday as both teams try to play their way back into their divisional standings.
The Maple Leafs are off to a sluggish start but have shown some grit along the way and played very well in hostile territory last night against the Montreal Canadiens, and now take to the road to face off against the New York Islanders. The Buds were the talk of the league on opening night despite losing to their provincial rivals from Ottawa as rookie sensation Auston Matthews netted four goals in his NHL debut, but since then they have faded back to relative anonymity when it comes to nightly headlines and need to get back in the win column to generate some momentum. Toronto will likely send Jhonas Enroth to the cage here as Frederik Andersen got the call last night as he is expected to face off against Jaroslav Halak.

The Islanders were expected to make some noise this season as they have a lot of their core back from last year’s playoff team, but so far they are just 3-5 through their first eight games and haven’t really hit their stride at all. New York needs to get someone other than John Tavares chipping in in the offensive zone and while he is their captain and top scoring threat it is very tough to win games on your own and until some of the supporting cast can step up this Isles side may have trouble winning games.
The Leafs are 15-36 in their last 51 overall and 7-21 in their last 28 in a back to back while the Islanders are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. New York needs a game like this to get going but I am siding with the Leafs here who are coming off a strong outing last night and should be able to find more offensive success here than they did against Carey Price.
