The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers meet up in an Atlantic division show down with in-state bragging rights on the line.
The Lightning look to get the upper hand on their division rivals on Monday night as they head into Sunrise to face off against Roberto Luongo and the Panthers in what should be a very exciting game in an otherwise quiet night on the ice. Tampa Bay is 7-4 on the season and 3-3 on the road and will look to extend Florida’s rough start to the season as they have been one of the biggest underachievers thus far, and while there is still plenty of hockey left to be played the Cats know they can’t fall too far behind as the Atlantic has some pretty good teams including the Lightning. Tampa Bay is expected to send Ben Bishop to the crease as he will face off against Luongo who is 3-5 this season despite an impressive 2.52 goals against average.

The Panthers as mentioned are off to a disappointing start to the season as many projected they would be in the mix for the division crown again this season and potentially go on a run in the Eastern Conference, and while they have bene strong defensively they haven’t been able to get rolling up front. They have a handful of talented forward including Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick Bjugstad, and the ageless Jaromir Jagr but so far they haven’t been able to turn things up offensively and that could cost them again here against a very good Tampa Bay side.
The Lightning are 6-2 in their last eight against the Atlantic and 2-5 in their last seven Monday games while the Cats are 1-4 in their last five playing on one day’s rest and 1-4 in their last five against the Atlantic. Tampa to me is the better team and while Florida will turn it around soon I don’t see it here against their instate rivals.
