The Detroit Red Wings look to get back in the win column as they host the Vancouver Canucks at Joe Louis Arena on Thursday night.
The Vancouver Canucks look to snap out of their ugly losing skid as they head into Detroit on Thursday night to face off against a Red Wings side that is a modest 4-4 at home and is just 7-6-1 on the year. Vancouver meanwhile started the season with a 4-0 record but have gone 1-8 since that time and have but a single victory on the road in six tries this season and if they’re going to make a push in the Atlantic division they are going to have to start picking things up in a hurry. The Canucks don’t have the roster to be one of the powers in the Western Conference and they have certainly regressed over the last few seasons, but with the way Ryan Miller has been playing this season he gives his team a chance to win every night and he will be out to do so again on Thursday against Detroit.

The Red Wings meanwhile have been the model of consistency in professional sports over the last quarter century as they have qualified for the postseason in each of the last 25 years but this looks like a year where they could fall short as they have lost some big time pieces and didn’t do a great job filling the void. The Wings had been off to a decent start to the year but are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games and need to find a way to generate some more offense if they’re going to give goaltender Petr Mrazek some breathing room.
The Canucks are 4-1 in their last five games following a win and 1-9 in their last 10 overall while the Wings are 5-1 in their last six following a win and 0-4 in their last four home games. The Canucks are due to break out and this game should be very close but I give Vancouver a slight edge as Miller is playing very well right now and should be the difference.
