NHL hockey comes to the Barclays Center when the New York Islanders host the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have enjoyed a solid start to the season thus far but they took one on the chin Wednesday in a 7-1 loss to the Capitals at the Verizon Center. Nothing went favorably at either end of the ice as goalie Matt Murray left the game after receiving a blow to the head and was replaced by Marc-Andre Fleury. Murray gave up two goals and Fleury was charged with five goals on 25 shots with Phil Kessel scoring the lone goal. The Caps received two goals apiece from TJ Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom with the pair combining for five assists while Dmitry Orlov, Justin Williams and Alex Ovechkin lit the lamp to make a winner of Braden Holtby.

The New York Islanders are looking to shake off their early season doldrums and were unable to in Monday’s 4-0 defeat to Tampa Bay where neither the offense or defense could provide a spark. In the process, the Islanders fell to 5-7-3 and are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. The Lightning were clicking offensively with Ryan Callahan, JT Brown, Vladislav Namestnikov and Nikita Kucherov each found the back of the net to make the 34 save performance of Andrei Vasilevskiy hold up and help the Bolts sweep the three game season series from the Isles. New York netminder Jaroslav Halak totaled 27 stops but couldn’t win the game all by his lonesome.
The Penguins are 7-0 in their last 7 games following a loss of 3 or more goals and the under is 1-0-3 in Penguins last 4 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game while the over is 4-0-1 in Penguins last 5 vs. Metropolitan. The under is 4-0 in Islanders last 4 Friday games and the under is 3-0-1 in Islanders last 4 vs. Eastern Conference while the Islanders are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan. The home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the Penguins are 37-16 in the last 53 meetings.
The Penguins have been the 900 pound gorilla in this match up but we need to see what kind of lineup New York puts on the ice…
