The high flying Columbus Blue Jackets were brought back to earth for a day following a 3-2, overtime defeat at the hands of visiting Colorado. Matt Duchene tallied the game winner for the Avalanche 1:49 in to the extra session in his return from injury. Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson scored in regulation for the Avalanche while Semyon Varlamov enjoyed a monster 40 save performance to help lift the Avs to 9-9-0 on the season. The Blue Jackets received a pair of goals from Cam Atkinson with the second coming with a mere 6.5 seconds left in the game but the momentum did not carry in to OT. Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves in defeat that saw the CBJ fall to 10-5-2.
