The Bruins head into the Air Canada Centre for a pivotal show down between Atlantic division foes on Monday night in a game that carries significant weight in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference as Boston currently holds the final automatic berth in the Atlantic division with 82 points, and are three up on the Leafs who are in the final wild card spot with 79 and a game in hand. The Bruins have really turned things up in the second half of the season and are 7-3 in their last 10 games and a large part in that goes to Brad Marchand who is having a breakout season offensively as he is right in the mix for the Art Ross trophy for the league lead in points and the Richard trophy for the league lead in goals. Boston is expected to send Tuukka Rask to the crease as he will face off against Frederik Andersen who will look to steal one for the home side.
The Leafs meanwhile are 4-3-3 in their last 10 contests and are still very much in the fold in the Atlantic division bracket but at the very worst they are slotted into a wild card spot right now, though that is everything but a safe spot right now. Toronto has a one point lead on the Islanders for the final playoff berth and a handful of other teams including the Lightning, Flyers, and Hurricanes are still in the mix and with 12 games left and most team’s schedules it’ll be an exciting finish to the regular season with plenty at stake the rest of the way. Toronto has 17 of their 32 victories this season at home but welcome a Bruins side who has been well traveled on the road of late and will be ready for a big effort against their arch rivals.
The Bruins are 4-1 in their last five overall and 8-2 in their last 10 when their opponent allows two or fewer in their previous outing while the Leafs are 7-21 in their last 28 Monday games and 4-1 in their last five against the Eastern Conference. This should be a very exciting contest between two arch rivals and while Toronto needs the win more the Bruins are playing the better hockey and they get another on this night.
