The Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings meet Thursday in NHL action at the Staples Center.
The Philadelphia Flyers look for a quick 2-0 start to the season after beating the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, 5-3. The Flyers are averaging five goals per game and have scored on three of their five power play attempts. Wayne Simmonds leads Philadelphia with three goals, Shayne Gostisbehere has three assists and Sean Couturier has six shots on goal. Defensively, the Philadelphia Flyers are allowing three goals per game and have killed four of their six play power attempts. Brian Elliott has given up three goals on 35 shots faced. The Philadelphia Flyers have allowed a combined nine goals in their last three games. The Philadelphia Flyers look for their first 2-0 start since the 2011-12 NHL season.

The Los Angeles Kings have missed the playoffs in two of the last three seasons, and while they return nearly the same roster, John Stevens takes over at head coach. The Kings return their top three scorers in Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson, and an offense that struggled to score should get a boost from the addition of Michael Cammalleri, who spent his first five seasons in Los Angeles. The Kings offense needs to improve considering they were tied with Buffalo for 24th in the league with 2.43 goals per game last season. The health of goalie Jonathan Quick, who played just 17 games last season, should also help the Kings have a bounce back season. The Los Angeles Kings have lost three straight regular season openers. Marian Gaborik is questionable with a knee injury.
The Flyers are 1-4 in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest, 6-21 in their last 27 road games and 9-24 in their last 33 vs. Pacific. The Kings are 2-7 in their last 9 games playing on 3 or more days rest and 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games. The Flyers are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles, the road team is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings and the under is 6-1-3 in the last 10 meetings.
The Flyers looked sharp in their season debut and showed a spark of offense that wasn't quite there last season, which should make Philly fans excited even if it was for one game. However, the Kings are healthier than they were a year ago and have to be eager to get off to a fast start with the way last season played out. With a healthy Quick in the net, you have to give the edge to the Kings in this spot, especially with him being 6-3-1 with a .938 save percentage against Philly in his career. I'll take the Kings and the reasonable price.
