The surging Rangers have won six in a row with solid performances at both ends of the ice with Rick Nash pacing the offense with two goals while Pavel Buchnevich and Michael Grabner joined the scoring column. Mats Zuccarello added a pair of assists and Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves to keep New York hot.

Edmonton was never able to get their offense going against the Rangers and the defense was not able to win on their lonesome. Jesse Pujujari and Connor McDavid provided the offense for the Oilers but Cam Talbot gave up three goals on 33 stops to absorb the loss for Edmonton.

The Washington Capitals are aiming for back to back wins when the Edmonton Oilers take the ice on Sunday. Washington has been looking strong the past few weeks with wins in five of seven following a 4- victory versus the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night.

The balanced Capitals offense received scoring from John Carlson, TJ Oshie, Chandler Stephenson and Jacub Vrana on the empty’ net. Carlson also had an assist to help Braden Holtby and his 27 stops to his 200th victory.

Phil Kessel scored the lone goal for the Penguins when Dmitri Orlov inadvertently kicked the puck in to his own net. Matt Murray took the loss for the Pens with three goals given up on 30 shots.

Under is 6-0 in Oilers last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and Oilers are 5-0 in their last 5 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and Oilers are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. Under is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 overall and under is 4-0 in Capitals last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 5-0 in Capitals last 5 games following a win. Oilers are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Washington and Oilers are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and home team is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings.

The Capitals have begun to awake from their early season slumber and I’ll back them versus the road weary Oilers…
