The Edmonton Oilers look to shake out of their early season funk as they continue their road trip on Sunday as they face off with the Boston Bruins.

The Oilers have been one of the league’s biggest disappointments to start the season as they have fallen on hard times going from a Cup favourite to once again residing towards the bottom of the league standings, and while there is still plenty of time for this group to right the ship they are having a hard time generating consistent play on a nightly basis. Edmonton heads into tonight’s game with a paltry 1-8 record in their last nine games against a team with a losing record and a 5-13 mark in their last 18 games against the Eastern Conference and are taking on a Bruins side that has looked brilliant over the last week or so and has dominated at home this season which can’t bode well for the Oilers in this spot. Edmonton is expected to send Cam Talbot to the crease as he will face off against Tuukka Rask who hasn’t had a great start to the season but can rebound here.

The Bruins meanwhile got off to a slow start this season and looked like a group dead in the water but they have responded nicely over the last couple of weeks and are looking like they could jump back into the discussion as a contender in the Atlantic division. Boston is still pretty thin behind their top six forwards and need a piece or two to step up or join the ranks through a trade as they don’t have a ton of offensive depth and that could come back to bite them if they can’t get Tuukka Rask out of his early season slump. The Bruins are 6-3-2 at home this season and have dominated opponents in the Western Conference as they are 19-7 in their last 26 contests but get an Oilers team here that is quickly reaching desperation status.

The Oil are 1-4 in their last five overall and 9-3 in their last 12 when playing in a 4-6 stretch while the B’s are 13-5 in their last 18 against the Pacific and 4-12 in their last 16 playing on one day’s rest. The Bruins have been playing their best hockey here and while I still don’t see them being a threat in the Atlantic I do think they can slow down an already snails pace offense of the Oilers in a home win.
