The Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs meet up in Alberta on Tuesday night in a show down of two of the league’s brightest young teams that have led their franchises back to relevance.

The Maple Leafs head into Calgary on Tuesday looking for their eighth win in their last 10 games but they will have their hands full against a Calgary side that is off and running in their own right and is 5-1 in their last six home games, which should set this one up as being a marquee show down on a full slate of NHL games. The Leafs head into this one with a disappointing 5-11 mark in their last 16 games against Pacific division opponents but with a roster led by Auston Matthews, James van Riemsdyk, and Nazem Kadri this is a group that is capable of matching up with anyone in the league, and if they can get William Nylander and Mitch Marner back on the level we saw from them last year this is going to be a very tough team to beat on a nightly basis.

The Flames meanwhile have dominated the Leafs at home over the years and are in for another exciting contest here in what could very well be a show down later on this season. Calgary is led by Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, and Sam Bennett as their young core but to me they are in a bit better position at the back end than Toronto and Mike Smith has rejuvenated his career since the move to Calgary, and while he has had to battle injury so far he is more than capable of taking this team on a playoff run like he did a few seasons ago with the Phoenix Coyotes. Smith will face off against Frederik Andersen who is enjoying his second year with the Buds and will be out to prove his spot as the team’s starter is undeniable.

The Leafs have played under in 13 of their last 16 against the Pacific and 7-3 in their last 10 overall while the Flames are 13-3 in their last 16 playing on two day’s rest and 4-1 in their last five home games. Calgary has dominated this series in Alberta and all trends point to another Calgary victory here in what should be a highly entertaining game.
