NHL action comes to the Pepsi Center where the Colorado Avalanche host the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.
The Winnipeg Jets hope to stay hot when the team visits the Colorado Avalanche. Winnipeg has won seven of nine following a 7-2 rout of the Minnesota Wild on Monday night. The balanced Winnipeg attack saw Joel Armia, Bryan Little, Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, Mathieu Perreault, Blake Wheeler and Jacob Trouba to make an easy winner of Connor Hellebuyck who stopped 17 shots. Alex Stalock absorbed the loss with all seven goals given up on 28 shots to 2-3-1.
The Colorado Avalanche are still out to prove they are improved from recent seasons. Colorado has dropped consecutive contests after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. Calgary opened the scoring in the first on Dougie Hamilton’s power play tally with 1:37 remaining in the period. The Avalanche tied it up in the second on a power play goal of their own from Mikko Rantanen before the game took a turn in favor of the Flames in the final minute.
Michael Ferland scored with 51 seconds left in the second and 22 seconds later Mikael Backlund lit the lamp to give Calgary a 3-1 advantage. Colorado cut the deficit to one on a Nikita Zadorov goal with 2:54 left in regulation which made for a tense ending. Rookie David Rittich picked up his first career win with 24 stops while Jonathan Bernier recorded 25 saves in defeat.
Under is 5-1 in Jets last 6 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 17-4 in Jets last 21 vs. Central and over is 4-1 in Jets last 5 Wednesday games. Over is 9-1-1 in Avalanche last 11 games playing on 3 or more days rest and Avalanche are 3-15 in their last 18 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and over is 5-1 in Avalanche last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. Home team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Jets are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Colorado and Jets are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
I am leaning to the Jets while I wait for goalie confirmation and I’ll look at the total then as well…
