The NHL comes to Little Caesars Arena where the Detroit Red Wings Red Wings host the Montreal Canadiens.

After dropping five straight contests the Montreal Canadiens are hoping a hot streak is in the making following back to back victories where the team has outscored the opposition 6-1. Montreal comes off of a 3-1 win versus the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets that ended their winning streak at six games. The Canadiens opened the scoring at 3:11 of the first on an unassisted goal from Brendan Gallagher before Jonathan Drouin doubled the advantage on the power play.

The Blue Jackets got on the scoreboard with just under four minutes remaining in the second period on a Pierre-Luc Dubois tally. Neither defense blinked the rest of the way with Montreal’s Andrew Shaw securing the win with an empty netter with 1:24 remaining. Carey Price gave the Habs 37 saves to improve to 5-7-1 while Sergei Bobrovsky dropped to 14-5-1 with 25 stops.

Every time the Detroit Red Wings lose has, it to remind the team of their historic postseason streak that ended last year. Detroit is in the midst of a five game slide where three of those defeats came in overtime. The Red Wings are coming off of a 4-1 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Kings with both ends of the ice struggled. The Wings led 1-0 on Mike Green’s goal in the first but the offense couldn’t crack the Los Angeles defense again which saw Jimmy Howard give up four goals on 36 shots.

The Kings offense received a pair of goals off the stick of Anze Kopitar with Dustin Brown and Adrian Kempe joining the scoring column. Drew Doughty assisted on both Kopitar goals to make the 23 save performance of Jonathan Quick hold up and give the LAK consecutive wins.

Canadiens are 0-4 in their last 4 Thursday games and under is 4-0-1 in Canadiens last 5 vs. Eastern Conference and under is 11-1-1 in Canadiens last 13 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation. Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 home games and Red Wings are 0-5 in their last 5 overall and under is 5-0 in Red Wings last 5 vs. Atlantic. Under is 4-0-1 in the last 5 meetings and under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Detroit and Canadiens are 11-4 in the last 15 meetings.

Both of these teams can be extremely difficult to predict but I believe Montreal has a bit more to offer in this spot…
