The Washington Capitals look for their fifth win in their last six games as they welcome the Los Angeles Kings to the Verizon Center on Thursday night.
The Kings look to snap out of an early season swoon as they are 3-7 in their last 10 contests and while they are coming off an impressive 4-1 win on the road against the Detroit Red Wings they face stiffer competition here and will need a full effort if they’re going to get a win in DC. The Kings started the season looking like a team capable of going on a deep playoff run and while there is still time for them to get back into that conversation they haven’t looked great over the last two weeks and are a disappointing 1-6 in their last seven games on one day’s rest. Jonathan Quick is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Braden Holtby who is out to regain his Vezina form with a strong effort here against the Kings.

The Capitals meanwhile head into tonight’s game riding a 4-1 stretch in their last five games and have been as strong as ever on home ice as they are 7-2 in their last nine games at the Verizon Center but welcome a Kings team that will be out to prove a point. The Caps remain one of the league’s top offensive groups but the big question mark for them this season was on the blue line and it has reared its ugly head a few times as their aging defenders have had trouble with teams who have great team speed, and while that may not come to be an issue here it is still a glaring problem.
The Kings are winless in their last four against a team with a winning record and 7-3 in their last 10 Thursday games while the Caps are 37-14 in their last 51 home games and the home team has won the last six meeting in this series. LA is a team we will win money on a lot this season but this is not the spot as they don’t have the depth offensively and won’t be able to take advantage of LA’s thin blue line.
