The San Jose Sharks continue their east coast road swing with a stop to face the Florida Panthers Thursday NHL action.
The San Jose Sharks have been paying well with wins in three of four as they head to the Sunshine State for the second leg of a four game trip. San Jose cranked up the defensive intensity in a 3-1 victory at the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. Philadelphia’s inability to maintain a lad reared it’s head once again as Claude Giroux scored just 48 seconds in but that was the offensive highlight. Philly goalie Michal Neuwirth gave up all three goals as the slumping Flyers have now dropped nine in a row.

The Sharks rebounded from a surprisingly quick deficit with Chris Tierney lighting the lamp at 10: 29 of the first while Joe Thornton tallied the game winner with 78 seconds left in the period. Marc-Eduard Vlasic provided insurance for the Sharks with a second period goal with just under four minutes remaining. Aaron Dell picked up the win with a 22 save performance that upped his record to 3-3-1.
The Florida Panthers have won three of four but much more is needed with the team sitting 7th in the Atlantic division. Florida comes off of a 5-4 victory at the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. The Rangers offense saw Pavel Buchnevich and Chris Kreider each score twice with JT Miller adding a goal. David Desharnais logged three helpers but Henrik Lundqvist allowed three goals on six shots before Ondrej Pavelec gave up two more on 21 shots.
The Panthers blew all of a three goal lead before a late score saved what could have been a disaster. The balanced Florida attack featured scoring from Jamie McGinn, Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Denis Maigin with 69 seconds left in regulation. Huberdeau also added two assists while James Reimer made 33 stops for the Panthers.
Under is 3-0-2 in Sharks last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and Sharks are 5-0 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and under is 6-0-1 in Sharks last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. Over is 6-0 in Panthers last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600 and under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 vs. Western Conference and under is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. Road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and Sharks are 4-9 in the last 13 meetings.
This should be a close one and I give a small edge to San Jose but not by much…
