NHL action comes to the Air Canada Centre where the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Calgary Flames.
The Calgary Flames need a quick change in momentum with the team suffering through losses in five of seven where both ends of the ice have struggled at times. Calgary ended a four game home stand on a 5-2 loss to the struggling Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night where the visitors took command with a three goal second. The Flames received scoring from Troy Brouwer and Sean Monahan but that wasn’t enough with Mike Smith allowing five goals on 21 shots.

Philadelphia finally played a complete game in all areas to end a brutal ten game losing streak. Scott Laughton led the Flyers attack with a pair of goals with Valtteri Fippula, Michael Rafl and Wayne Simmonds also scoring. Former Flames goalie Brian Elliott came up big with a monster 43 save performance.
The Toronto Maple Leafs return home from a three game road trip where the team looks to rebound from a 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks where the offense never got going to support a good defensive performance. The dangerous Maple Leafs attack was never able to get untracked with James van Riemsdyk scoring the lone goal with 2:52 remaining in regulation. Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen allowed both goals on 26 shots to fall to 15-8-1.
The Canucks scored twice in the first on an unassisted tally by Markus Granlund at 4:52 with Alexander Edler scoring the eventual game winner at 11:14. Jacob Markstrom gave Vancouver a strong effort in the net with 35 stops that upped his record to 7-8-3.
Flames are 8-1 in their last 9 games following a loss of 3 or more goals and Flames are 1-7 in their last 8 Wednesday games and Flames are 5-1 in their last 6 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. Maple Leafs are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and Maple Leafs are 6-1 in their last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 4-1 in Maple Leafs last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. Flames are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings in Toronto and under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Toronto and home team is 20-6 in the last 26 meetings.
I’m going to back the Maple Leafs who are playing the better hockey with the added benefit of being home…
