The Washington Capitals head into the Big Apple on Wednesday night looking to kick off the second half of their season on a winning note against the Rangers.
The Capitals hit the Christmas break at a tough time as they had ripped off 11 wins in their last 15 contests but they will be in tough here as the Rangers are a very impressive 12-3 in their last 15 home games and have reasserted themselves as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. The Caps were inconsistent to start the season but have hit a hot streak and are looking like a team to be reckoned with their offensive depth and if they can bring in some help on the blue line they will be a very tough out come playoff time, but as we have seen in many years past they can’t seem to find a way to break their playoff demons. The Caps are expected to send Braden Holtby to the crease here as he will face off against Henrik Lundqvist who remains a mainstay in the Rangers crease.

The Rangers head into Wednesday night’s game after a nice break riding a hot streak but they have been better when they are busy and with more than three days off they are 1-6 in their last seven so will need to be sharp early on here. New York is starting to look like the team many expected to compete in the Metro division and they have hit the over in 32 of their last 55 games against the Metro division and with the Washington offense being so potent this one figures to be a high scoring affair.
The Caps are 4-1 in their last five against the Metro and 11-4 in their last 15 Wednesday games while the Rangers are 12-3 in their last 15 home games and have played under in five of their last seven. The Caps have a tad more offensively but New York looks to be the more complete team and at home I like them to get it done.
