The St. Louis Blues return to action after the Christmas break with a marquee matchup against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night.
The Predators take to the road to battle one of the league’s best teams on Wednesday in what should be a highly entertaining contest and the Preds will look to keep their impressive road record intact as they have dominated the Central division in their last 22 contests. The Predators have ripped off five wins in their last six tries and to go along with their history of being a tough out on home ice this is a great trend moving forward as they are going to be playoff contender and a win here against St. Louis would be a huge confidence boost and would certainly put the rest of the league on notice. Pekka Rinne is expected to get the nod here as he will face off against Jake Allen who is enjoying a nice season in his second year as the full time starter in St. Louis.

The Blues meanwhile head into the post-Christmas break in a bit of a rut as they dropped five of their last seven games but they have been cruising on home ice and will need a strong effort here to take down the Predators. The Blues have been keeping their opponents in check in the defensive zone as their defensive core and their goaltending has been superb but the injury to Alex Pietrangelo has hurt them and against the Preds who have some depth offensively for the first time in a few seasons they could be susceptible for a home loss here.
The Preds are 4-1 in their last five road games and 16-7 in their last 23 overall while the Blues are 3-7 in their last 10 against the West and 2-5 in their last seven overall. The Preds to me are playing the better hockey and while the Blues may have a bit more offensive talent I think Nashville gets it done at a great price.
