The Pittsburgh Penguins look to cool down the Carolina Hurricanes in a Friday NHL tilt.
I sometimes refer to the Pittsburgh Penguins as a ‘good but inconsistent’ team as they score in bunches and are scored on or they don’t score and lose 2-1. Pittsburgh has to iron out these issues if another Stanley Cup is in their future and I think the issues will be fixed. The Penguins will be looking for back to wins after knocking off Columbus 5-4 in a shootout on Wednesday. The CBJ received two goals from Artemi Panarin with Boone Jenner and Sonny Milano also lighting the lamp.

The Penguins scoring came off the sticks of Conor Sheary, Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin and Jake Guentzel with Malkin and Sydney Crosby scoring in the shootout. Malkin also gave the Penguins three helpers with Matt Murray stopping 29 shots. Sergei Bobrovsky fell to 18-10-1 for the Blue Jackets with four goals allowed on 33 shots.
It’s taken awhile but the Carolina Hurricanes are playing well with a nice winning streak where both ends of the ice have contributed to their success. Carolina has won six of seven following a 3-1 victory versus the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night. Alex Galchenyuk scored the lone Montreal goal at 5:19 of the second period that sent the game to the third tied 1-1.
Teuvo Teravainen opened the scoring at 3:44 of the first but the Hurricanes wouldn’t do anything else until Sebastian Aho tallied the game winner at 9:15 of the third period before hitting the empty net with 1:24 remaining to secure the win. Cam Ward stopped 23 shots to pick up the win for Carolina while Carey Price absorbed the loss with 33 saves.
Penguins are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and Penguins are 0-4 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and Penguins are 6-1 in their last 7 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game. Hurricanes are 5-0 in their last 5 home games and Hurricanes are 6-1 in their last 7 overall and Hurricanes are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference. Penguins are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Carolina and under is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings and Penguins are 20-8 in the last 28 meetings.
Pittsburgh has dominated this matchup but are an underdog because Carolina has been playing so well. I’ll take a shot at the under pending goalies and will update…
