The Ottawa Senators take the ice with the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets in a Friday NHL matchup.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are in need of consistency at both ends of the ice with the team suffering big swings offensively and defensively over the past several weeks. Columbus looks to bounce back from a 5-4, shootout loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night. The CBJ received two goals from Artemi Panarin with Boone Jenner and Sonny Milano also lighting the lamp.

The Penguins scoring came off the sticks of Conor Sheary, Phil Kessel, Evgeni Malkin and Jake Guentzel with Malkin and Sydney Crosby scoring in the shootout. Malkin also gave the Penguins three helpers with Matt Murray stopping 29 shots. Sergei Bobrovsky fell to 18-10-1 for the Blue Jackets with four goals allowed on 33 shots.
The Ottawa Senators have been waiting for virtually the entire season to get something going with struggles at both ends of the ice dragging the team down. Those struggles continued in a 5-1 road loss versus the Boston Bruins on Wednesday with Thomas Chabot scoring the lone goal in the second period.
Riley Nash paced the Bruins scoring parade with a pair of goals with Kevan Miller, Danton Heinan and David Backes also joining the scoring column. Tuukka Rask stooped 25 shots for Boston while Craig Anderson took the loss for the Senators with five goals allowed on 23 shots.
Blue Jackets are 0-4 in their last 4 road games and Blue Jackets are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400 and Blue Jackets are 5-1 in their last 6 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game. Over is 5-0-2 in Senators last 7 Friday games and Senators are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and Senators are 4-0 in their last 4 home games following a road trip of 7 or more days. Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Ottawa.
Neither team is making me rush to the betting window but I’m backing the Blue Jackets but laying any kind of chalk between struggling teams really doesn’t make sense…
